Movies Showing Nowhere is one of those special “children’s” books that I’d encourage anybody to read.

It’s not giving too much away to say there’s a climactic moment, a conversation between a parent and child, that will probably leave younger readers thinking, “Yeah, that’s a cool way to wrap up a time-travelling tale” while at the same time flooring adult readers, who may well find themselves snot-smeared sobbing wrecks, laughing through hot tears.

I’m only slightly exaggerating. Movies Showing Nowhere is a story about time travel in the same way that Watership Down is a story about rabbits. This award-winning Dutch book by Yorick Goldewijk is now available in English, and British bookshelves are all the better for it.
