The Detroit Red Wings have had no luck in the NHL draft lottery. If they win it this year, they’ll still be unlucky.

That’s because a team that wins the lottery can move up no more than 10 spots based on the standings following a rules change the league began implementing in 2022. The Red Wings finished 18th overall, that’s 15th from the bottom. So, they can pick no higher than fifth.
