Emergency crews respond to Tumon beach

A body was pulled from Tumon waters on Saturday afternoon. Just after 1 p.m., Guam Fire Department units responded to the beach side behind Guam Reef Hotel on a report that a person was floating but not moving about 50 yards from shore, spokesman Lt. Nick Garrido said.

GFD paramedics arrived on scene and retrieved the victim.

CPR was conducted on shore and due to the condition of the victim, they stopped CPR at 1:43 p.m., Garrido said. He said the victim is a male and his age is unknown.

The Guam Police Department was also on scene investigating.

Last month, firefighters responded to three separate calls that ended with rescuers pulling people out of the water.

Two swimmers were taken to hospitals on March 27 after firefighters located them 20 feet below the surface of the water. GFD received a report of two distressed swimmers near the Hagåtña treatment plant.

The swimmers were taken to Naval Hospital Guam and Guam Memorial Hospital with CPR en route. The condition of the two swimmers is unknown.

On March 18, the body of a missing 28-year-old man who was last seen swimming over the reef at Ritidian Beach on March 17 was found 25 feet below the surface.

A few days before that, on March 14, the body of a 40-year fisherman was found about 45 feet below the surface after he was reported missing.

In January, an 8-year-old boy was pulled from the water off of Asan Beach.
