I know a lot of you don’t know me. Let me introduce myself. I am John Fryar and though new to Sedgwick County I have almost 50 years of ties to it. I married Sandy in 1975 and was welcomed into the Hagemann family. In 2019, Sandy and I relocated to Julesburg and have cared for her parents, Doug and Lois. We even bought a small business here, All Washed Up Laundromat/Dog Wash in Julesburg.
As I reached the end of my Law Enforcement career, I began to look for opportunities to serve my new community. I hope to bring the experience of almost 50 years of public service to the leadership of the county. Initially, I was honored to serve as the Municipal Judge in Julesburg and Ovid. As I watched the County’s direction, I came to believe that my strengths in local government could help Sedgwick County.
My experience has been working with local, county and federal levels of government:
• I started as an honorably discharged Army veteran where I served as a military policeman. I continued that in civilian life working as the Undersheriff of Morgan County and the Chief of Police for both Wiggins and Fort Lupton.
• I completed the Mountain View Fire Academy and worked as a volunteer fireman and EMT for the Frederick Fire Department. These experiences led me to explore elected and appointed positions. I was elected to the Board of Directors for the Tri-Area Ambulance District and the Wiggins Fire Protective District. I have also served on the Advisory Board for the AIMS Community College Law Enforcement Program, the Board of Governors for the Colorado Rangers with Senators Cook and Lambert and the E911 Board of Directors for Weld County.
• I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice/HR and attended Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
• In these assignments, I learned to positively lead employees, develop and administer multimillion-dollar budgets and wrote and administered private, corporate and governmental grants.
Please call or email me to tell me your concerns and let me give you my position on local issues. I would like to invite concerned citizens to Meet-And-Greet events scheduled on May 2th at 6:00 pm, at the Ovid Senior Center; May 9th at 6:00 pm, at Lion’s Den in Sedgwick; and May 15th at 6:00 pm, Sedgwick County Museum. Watch for the flyers.
