Tom Anderson, a scion of one of the country’s best-known cinema families, secretly held a 25 per cent stake in the Movies@ chain of multiplexes.

Anderson, whose brother Paul controls the nationwide Omniplex chain, acquired the stake in the three-strong Movies@ cinema chains in 2019 via Interms Holdings, a company registered in Delaware in the United States. The two shareholders of Interms are Tom Anderson and Catherine Keane.

Interms held a 50 per cent stake in Movies@Dundrum, Movies@Swords and Movies@TheSquare.

Graham Spurling, chief executive of the cinema chain, told The Sunday Times that “as of now, Tom Anderson is not a shareholder in Movies@”.

The Movies@ franchise was set up in 2015 by the Spurling and O’Gorman families, long-standing players in the cinema trade, to
