BENGALURU: CM Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced the formation of a special investigation team to probe the the circulation of obscene videos implicating incumbent Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former PM H D Deve Gowda.
Hassan, where Prajwal is the candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance, voted on April 26.
In response to a letter from the chairperson of the State Women's Commission urging govt intervention, Siddaramaiah said that he has directed the home department to conduct a thorough probe.

Taking to X, the CM highlighted the commission's views, stating that they seem to indicate that videos reportedly circulating in Hassan via pen drives over the past few days have revealed instances of sexual exploitation of several women. "We have decided to order a special probe to unravel the truth," he said.
Earlier in the day, deputy CM DK Shivakumar urged former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy to respond to allegations of sexual assault purportedly involving Prajwal, without naming him.
Shivakumar also asked BJP functionaries BY Vijayendra, Shobha Karandlaje, R Ashoka, and CN Ashwath Narayan to respond. Congress insiders feel the govt's move could potentially become an issue nationally and pose challenges for the BJP-JD(S) alliance.
Neither Kumaraswamy nor former minister H D Revanna, Prajwal's father, responded to phone calls to seek their views.
Speculation is rife that Prajwal has gone abroad for a short holiday following the first phase of polling which covered southern and coastal constituencies of the state.
