New Delhi: In a major jolt for the Congress days ahead of Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Arvinder Singh Lovely, the party’s state unit president has resigned from his post. Expressing the reason behind his decision, the Congress leader said the state unit was unhappy with party’s decision to join hands with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

‘Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with AAP’

“The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of leveling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party. Despite that, the Party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi…,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

He added, “Since my appointment as DPCC President, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed me to make any senior appointments in the DPCC. My request for the appointment of a veteran leader as Media head of DPCC was blatantly rejected. To date, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed the DPCC to appoint all Block presidents in the city. Resultantly more than 150 blocks in Delhi do not presently have a Block President.”

Lovely further said he was shocked to see the ticket allotments in two seats of the three Lok Sabha seats, that the party is contesting in Delhi. Notably, while Congress has fielded Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi seat, Udit Raj has been fielded from North West Delhi. The Congress leader further added that even as AAP continued to accused Congress of corruption time and again, the party decided to join with them through INDIA bloc.  He had assumed charge of the post in August last year.
