Waterloo Region honours National Day of Mourning

Flags are being flown at half-mast across Waterloo region to recognize and honour those who lost their lives or suffered injury or illness during a work-related incident.

Today is the “National Day of Mourning”, a day for remembering victims of workplace tragedies. 

The Waterloo Regional Labour Council will be hosting a day of mourning ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Park in Cambridge.

Waterloo Region District School Board flags were lowered to half-mast, and are being flown that way today in honour of those affected by these tragedies.

In Ottawa, a moment of silence and commemorative event is set for Parliament Hill.

According to the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada, in 2022, there were 993 workplace fatalities recorded in Canada. among these deaths were 33 young workers aged 15-24.
