The Dorchester County Government’s annual workforce development program designed for local teenagers and young adults has begun.

This initiative supports individuals aged 16-22, allowing them to develop workplace readiness skills and gain experience within local government departments.

Participants will be involved in various roles, including office administration, customer service and general labor. This program enhances the participants’ professional capabilities and strengthens their engagement with the community.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age 16-22 at the time of application submission.
  • Must be currently enrolled in high school or college, with proof of enrollment required.
  • Residency in Dorchester County.
  • Ability to attend orientation on June 17 at the Kenneth F. Waggoner Services Building at 201 Johnston St. in St. George.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Program Details: The eight-week program begins Monday, June 17, and ends Friday, Aug. 2.

It is structured to provide the youth of Dorchester County with the skills necessary to thrive in a professional setting.

Application Process: Applications are now open and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 24. Prospective participants can apply online. Computers are available at all Dorchester County public libraries for those without personal computer access.
