Did Buffalo Bills stiff-arm Patriots’ attempt at landing Keon Coleman in Round 1 of NFL Draft?

After making a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills had multiple suitors calling them about the final pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Buffalo ultimately traded the pick along with No. 200 to the Carolina Panthers for pick No. 33 and pick 141. Another team who came calling for the final pick of the first round? Buffalo’s division rival, the New England Patriots.

New England was attempting to trade up for a wide receiver of their own and ESPN’s Mike Reiss believes that Keon Coleman may have been the target. Here is what Reiss wrote on ESPN.

The Patriots had a trade offer on the table to the Bills late in the first round on Thursday night, according to a source. The Bills were at pick No. 32 (after a trade back with the Chiefs), but instead of dealing with their AFC East rival Patriots for No. 34, they chose Carolina’s offer to slide back one spot to No. 33.

Receivers Xavier Legette and Keon Coleman were selected at 32 and 33 before the Patriots traded back from 34, so one can deduce the Patriots had either Legette or Coleman as their target -- or possibly both. My hunch is Legette.

We may not ever know which receiver the Patriots were targeting, but UStadium’s Nick Spano reported that New England was high on Coleman and traded down from 34 after the Bills selected him at pick 33. New England would ultimately land Ja’Lynn Polk at pick 37 and later add Javon Baker (Round 4). ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe also reported that Coleman was a name to watch at 34 for New England if he was available.
