A man, 60s, has died in hospital after he was discovered lying unconscious and bleeding heavily on a street in Wexford town centre.

The injured man was discovered by passers-by in the early hours of Monday morning on George's Street.

The people who discovered the man attempted to save his life by administering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

The man was subsequently transported to Wexford General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

The area was cordoned off for a period of time on Monday morning.

Gardai initially said they were keeping an open mind as to how the man sustained the injuries to his head however The Irish Mirror now understands gardai are confident no foul play was involved.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident involving a male, which occurred on George's Street, Wexford, in the early hours of Monday 29th April 2024," said a garda spokesperson.

"The male was conveyed to Wexford General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The scene was preserved for technical examination. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course," the spokesperson added.
