An exciting series of outdoor cinema screenings of hit 1980s classics is coming to Grimsby this summer.

In August, local company CineShow - renowned for its immersive experiences including Jaws in the Water at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre and The Shining Halloween event at Central Hall - will bring its very first Outdoor Cinema Festival to King George V Stadium on Weelsby Road.

The entire event is sponsored by local youth and theatre school, PQA Cleethorpes, and will consist of four individual screenings of some of the most popular movies from the 1980s.

Each event will include an array of fun outdoor activities, food and drink by local vendors and other live performances before the screening starts.

The first movie will be Big Trouble in Little China on Saturday, August 17, followed by Back to the Future on Saturday, August 24 and Ghostbusters on Sunday, August 25. The festival will conclude with Neverending Story on Saturday, August 31.

Speaking to Grimsby Live, owner of CineShow, Jamie Roberts, said: "The idea for the '80s theme came from a production meeting where everybody shouted out their favourite classics, and all the suggestions ended up being '80s films.

"We're encouraging people to come in '80s or movie cosplay, and there will be prizes for the best dressed. We're going to do quizzes and outdoor activities - like ping pong tables, Jenga, a baseball bat cage, crazy golf, Twister, face painting - there'll be loads on offer.

"We've gathered feedback from going to other outdoor cinemas and we noticed that when you get there, you're just waiting for the film to start, so we wanted to fill that gap. So as well as all the outdoor activities, we'll have a live DJ and live performances by a singer or band in between that space before it's dark enough to show the film."

Tickets for each event cost £11 per child and £13 per adult, with an additional cost required for those who wish to hire a beanbag or deck chair instead of bringing their own.

"We've done a lot of research amid the cost of living crisis. We've definitely kept the costs down because we want as many people as possible to be able to access this."
