DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A local independent theater is hosting a recently founded film festival.

The Dayton Black Women’s Film Festival is looking to put the spotlight on films written, directed and produced by black women.

The festival will be hosted at The Neon on 130 East 5th Street across from the Oregon District.

According to the festival’s website, the event seeks to “strengthen the community and create opportunities for collaboration among black female filmmakers in Dayton and nearby regions.”

The festival premieres on Thursday, May 16 beginning at 7:30 p.m., with tickets on sale now for $10.
