Former Ole Miss Rebels basketball player charged with firing shot as vehicle was being repossessed

Oxford, Mississippi, police said Sharp was arrested Friday afternoon. No one was injured in the shooting.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Oxford Police said a former Ole Miss basketball player was arrested and charged, accused of firing a shot while a vehicle was being repossessed.

According to OPD, Jamarion Sharp, 22, is charged with aggravated assault and was given a $10,000 bond.

OPD investigators said about 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, they responded to a call about a shooting in the area of Price Hill Park. They said a vehicle was being repossessed when someone, whom they later identified as Sharp, fired a gun towards the victim. They said no one was injured.

Police said several people were detained and Sharp was booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center after being identified as the shooter.

Sharp is a 7’5” senior forward from Kentucky. During the 2023-24 season, he was named to the Kareem Abdul Jabbar Award preseason watch list and appeared in 31 games for the Rebels, making 15 starts. He averaged 15.8 minutes and 3.3 points per game.

According to Ole Miss Athletics, Sharp is the tallest player in NCAA Division I basketball at 7’5” and one of the tallest living humans.

Earlier this month, Sharp was part of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which invites senior college basketball players to compete in front of professional scouts.
