Alabama spring football is over but their is no rest for head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff as the spring window transfer portal is open.

Former Charlotte 49er defensive back Kameron Howard, via his Twitter, has committed to Alabama, making the announcement on ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter):

Howard becomes the 12th player being added to the 2024 Alabama football roster through the transfer portal. Howard also becomes the third defensive back to commit to Alabama via the transfer portal joining Domani Jackson from University of Southern California (USC) and Keon Sabb from Michigan.

Coming out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, MD., Howard was an unranked recruit in the Class of 2023 that did not get many offers coming out of high school. Besides Charlotte, Howard got offers from Memphis, Buffalo, Kent State, Holy Cross, Old Dominion, etc. In one season with the 49ers, Howard only started in two games but contributed in all 12 games. In those 12 games, Howard ended his freshman season with 38 total tackles, 21 solo tackles, and two interceptions. His best game came in week eight against Florida Atlantic. In the game against the Owls, Howard ended the game with eight total tackles.

Hours after Howard announced his commitment, Peyton Woodyard, who is a Class of 2024 four-star defensive back commit, announced that he would be entering the transfer portal with a “Do Not Contact” tag. Unlike Woodyard, Howard brings something that the Alabama defensive back room needs, college level experience.

Last year, the Alabama defensive back room consisted of  Malachi Moore, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, Earl Little II, Trey Amos, Antonio Kite, Dezz Ricks, etc. Besides Moore, all of these players left due to the NFL Draft or the transfer portal (Downs to Ohio State, Little to Florida State, Kite to Auburn, Amos to Ole Miss, Ricks to Texas A&M, McKinstry to the NFL, Arnold to the NFL). The Alabama defensive back room needs experience badly and that is what they are getting with Jackson, Sabb, and Howard.

We will be able to see what Howard can bring to The University of Alabama on August 31 when the team opens the 2024 season with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers traveling to Bryant Denny Stadium.
