A brand new cinema is set to open on Epsom high-street later this year. Picturehouse have announced plans for a six screen cinema to open alongside a bar and restaurant.

Plans submitted to Epsom and Ewell council show designs for the Picturehouse signage to be erected on Derby square.

Picturehouse cinema’s don’t only show films but also screen opera or theatre. Their locations have cafes, bars and restaurants serving a wide range of food and drink. It is set to open in 'late 2024'.

Current plans have included one internally illuminated sign to be fixed to the existing concrete column as well as readograph signs. These signs are what you see in classic cinemas. They are backlit and usually contain moveable letters spelling things out.

There is also a proposed living wall fitted between the existing concrete beams with an integrated irrigation system.

If opened the new Picturehouse will be only the latest cinema in Epsom. There is already a Odeon Luxe cinema on the upper-highstreet, about a five minute walk away from Derby Square.

28 Picturehouse’s exist all across the country including Exeter, York and Liverpool. A large number of their locations are in London, but the Epsom screens will be the first in Surrey. Currently they are screening blockbusters as well as National Theatre showings and less well known productions.

Currently the company is looking for founder members of its Epsom branch. The first 1000 people to sign up will get their names on the Founders wall, as well as two extra tickets on their account when the cinema opens. There is also an alternative regular members scheme.
