DODGE CENTER, Minn. (KTTC) – On April 29, the Dodge County Dispatch received a call from Con-Tech Manufacturing reporting an employee who had been crushed by a 5,000-pound mixer drum.

Teofilo Gonzalez, 63, a 10-year employee of Con-Tech from Brownsdale, was pronounced dead at 10:29 a.m.

According to his co-workers, Gonzalez was cutting a crossbeam support on a dolly that was supporting a 5,000-pound mixer drum when the dolly failed, causing the mixer to fall on Gonzalez.

Other employees used two forklifts to remove the drum from Gonzalez in order to perform CPR.

Once a Dodge Center ambulance arrived, EMS took over care but were unable to save Gonzalez.

“Minnesota OSHA responded to the accident today and has opened its investigation,” stated a spokesperson from the Minnesota Department of Labor, “We will inspect work areas for safety or health hazards, try to determine what caused or contributed to the accident and review whether existing OSHA standards were violated. The goal is to help avoid a recurrence for similar accidents.”
