BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — A Bluefield woman was charged with Second-Degree Murder after a fight left a woman dead.

36-year-old Crystal Faye Copley was charged with Second-Degree Murder after a woman died following a fight over a lighter leash in Mercer County.

On April 29, 2024, members of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fight on Old Bramwell Road in the Bluefield area of Mercer County.

Witness reports stated that Copley arrived at a house on Old Bramwell Road and got into an argument with Debra Olivo. The verbal argument was about cigarettes and a lighter, and turned physical when Copley shoved Olivo against a brick wall at the house. Copley admitted to pushing Olivo away to allegedly put space between them before leaving.

Once Copley left the house, Olivo went inside and collapsed while calling 911. She was unresponsive and CPR was given until emergency services arrived on scene.

Deputies later received confirmation that Olivo was dead.

Copley was taken to Southern Regional Jail where her bail was set at $100,000.
