San Diego State is still adding players to its 2024 football recruiting class, but that didn’t prevent the Class of 2025 from getting its charter member.

JP Mialovski, a quarterback from Long Beach Millikan High School, announced his commitment Monday to the Aztecs on X (formerly Twitter).

“Aztec nation, I’m home,” Mialovski tweeted.

The 6-foot-2 quarterback completed 182 of 305 passes for 2,764 yards and 30 touchdowns with five interceptions as a junior last season, according to MaxPreps.com. Mialovski chose the Aztecs over offers from 11 other schools, most notably Cal, Washington State and Ole Miss. He visited Colorado State in March, according to 247Sports.com, and took a trip to SDSU on April 20.

In comments on social media, Mialovski thanked his parents for encouraging his work ethic and his coaches for assisting in his development.

He also thanked SDSU head coach Sean Lewis and quarterbacks coach Matt Johnson for “believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity to be the face of the program.”

Mialovski told the Union-Tribune the relationship he built with Lewis and Johnson contributed to his decision to commit four months before he begins his senior year at Millikan.

“I feel like we have a special bond,” he said. “I really believe in their vision and what they are going to build at SDSU, and I am excited to be a part of that.

“Coach Lewis’ fast-paced, explosive offense is a great fit for my playing style. They will develop me and maximize my potential.”

247Sports.com rates Mialovski as the No. 16 quarterback in California and the state’s 124th prospect overall.

In his scouting report, 247Sports.com recruiting analyst Greg Biggins called the quarterback is “a pure pocket passer with a quick release and the arm talent to get the ball down the field.

“He’s not going to run for a ton of yards, but shows good mobility in the pocket and can make the first defender miss,” Biggins said. “He shows good touch and accuracy on the deep balls and does a nice job of throwing with anticipation.

“He can get the ball out early and does a nice job layering his throws between defenders.”

SDSU coaches can’t comment on commitments until players have sign their national letters of intent. The NCAA’s early signing period for the Class of 2025 is in December.

SDSU currently has four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster — sophomores AJ Duffy and Kyle Crum, redshirt freshman Javance Tupou’ata-Johnson and true freshman Danny O’Neil — who all could potentially return for the 2025 season as well.
