Pembroke resident charged with distributing intimate photos without consent

A 47-year-old Pembroke resident has been arrested and charged with distributing intimate images without consent contrary to the Criminal Code. Police are withholding the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.

Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation on April 24, 2024 after receiving a report that a former romantic partner of the adult vicitm was sharing intimate images of the victim without consent.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 21, 2024.  

Police explained it is a criminal offence to transmit intimate images without consent.  

“Everyone who knowingly publishes, distributes, posts online or shares an intimate image of a person, knowing that the person depicted in the image did not give their permission, is committing an offence. An intimate image is defined as being one in which the subject is nude, partially nude or engaged in explicit sexual activity, regardless of their age,” police said in a press release.
