Dungeons and Dragons Mini Convention.jpg

For 50 years, the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons has combined elements of gaming, storytelling and improvisational theatre to allow players to create virtually any kind of character imaginable and portray them in an interactive story in a fantasy setting.

In honor of the game reaching the half-century mark, Greenville W. Walworth Harrison Public Library plans to host a Dungeons & Dragons “mini-convention” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the main purposes of the convention will be to serve as an introduction to the game where those who are interested but have little to no experience can try their hand at it.

The convention will also include panels featuring experienced dungeon masters, who will give tips on running a game. In a game of D&D, a dungeon master is a player who serves as a head writer/narrator and also role plays all of the antagonists and non-player characters to flesh out the world the other players are navigating with their characters.

With D&D being a social game, another purpose of the mini-convention is to provide an opportunity for players, both new and experienced, to find other players to start adventures with.

In addition to the upcoming convention, W. Walworth Harrison Public Library also frequently hosts D&D playing groups for players of varying experience levels. For more information on the library’s D&D sessions and other programing, call (903) 457-2992.
