A young boy died Friday evening at Fulton County Medical Center after being rescued from the water in Clay Township.
Fulton County Coroner Berley Souders told The Daily News Monday the boy, who was just 10 days from turning 4 years old, was transported to the medical center where he was pronounced dead at 11:57 p.m. May 10.
Souders said all resuscitation efforts had been exhausted.
“The cause of death was fresh water drowning and the manner of death was accidental,” he said.
Emergency crews from across the county were called to an area of 21248 Waterfall Road in Clay Township just before dark Friday evening to search for the missing toddler.
The boy was reported missing on his family property near the intersection of Church Street and Waterfall Road (Route 655). Crews, specifically those with water rescue apparatus and training, searched the banks of the unnamed stream that feeds into Spring Creek for about 90 minutes before locating the child in the water at 9:24 p.m. He was found in the stream about three-quarters of a mile from his residence.
CPR was administered to the child immediately and Three Springs Ambulance transported him from the location to a landing zone at Spring Farms Elementary School; however, weather conditions prohibited a medical helicopter from flying. Emergency crews then transported the boy by ambulance to Fulton County Medical Center for treatment.
Among those assisting Three Springs Volunteer Fire Co. were crews from Mapleton, Smithfield, Mount Union, RW&BT, Hustontown and Shade Gap fire companies, as well as a number of members of the public. Huntingdon Regional Fire & Rescue was on standby at the Three Springs station.
The call was cleared shortly after 10 p.m.
