Pakistan Crescent Collective to make historic debut at 77th Cannes Film Festival

LONDON: In a momentous milestone, Pakistan is set to unveil its inaugural central hub at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 14 to 20.

The Pakistan Crescent Collective, spearheaded by Modoxy Media, marks a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering emerging talent, preserving cinematic artistry, and showcasing Pakistani and diaspora films on the global stage.

Pakistan has garnered increasing recognition at Cannes in recent years, with notable achievements such as the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize winner “Joyland” in 2022 and last year’s “In Flames” featured in the Director’s Fortnight section, both serving as Pakistan’s official submissions to the Academy Awards.

Building upon this legacy, the Pakistan Crescent Collective is set to present an extensive program at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, highlighted by a filmmaker panel discussion and an event coinciding with the marche preview screening of the highly anticipated “The Glassworker.”

“The Glassworker” holds special significance for Pakistani cinema as it marks the country’s maiden venture into 2D hand-painted traditional filmmaking, drawing inspiration from the renowned Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli.

Furthermore, the collective will co-host the inauguration and reception of the world’s premier South Asian Film Market, in collaboration with the Oscar-qualifying Tasveer Film Festival.

As part of the festivities, Tasveer and the Pakistan Crescent Collective will jointly organize an exclusive speed networking event at the American Pavilion Terrace, providing selected filmmaking teams with the opportunity to pitch their projects to established financiers and funders.

Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the visionary behind Modoxy Media, underscores the importance of the Pakistan Crescent Collective, affirming its dedication to championing Pakistani cinema and talent on both domestic and international fronts, marking a moment to celebrate the nation’s cinematic achievements.
