Anies made the statement on Sunday during a halal bi halal post-Ramadhan gathering organized by the Jakarta Urban Poor Network (JRMK) in Muara Baru, North Jakarta, after a group of residents expressed their wish to have Anies lead the city one more time.

"I missed [Muara Baru]. [...] I campaigned here during the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, should I campaign again now?", he said while laughing, as reported by Kompas.

The politician revealed that he was 'seriously considering' running for the city’s top office, stating that several political parties had offered to back him in the race slated to take place on Nov. 27 this year.

"I am mulling whether I should run for reelection. But I will consider the offer very very, very, very seriously," Anies said without specifying the parties involved.

He further said that he felt like he had "received fresh energy" after meeting Muara Baru residents. He also asked the supporters to "work together" to change the country.
