Obsessed With Santa’s Origin Story? 4 Festive Movies All About Santa Claus to Add to Your Watch List

You may have forgotten these holiday classics and movies that focus solely on jolly old Saint Nick

There’s nothing quite as jolly as the big, bearded fellow in red himself. Christmas and holiday movies wouldn’t be what they are without Saint Nick, but sometimes Santa deserves a movie all about himself. While he is often featured in Christmas movies, there are a few flicks that put the spotlight right on Santa. Check out which of our favorite holiday movies are all about Kris Kringle.

1. ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ (1947)

One of the most popular Santa-based Christmas films is easily Miracle on 34th Street (1947), starring Natalie Wood, Maureen O’Hara, John Payne and Edmund Gwenn. When a man going by the name of Kris Kringle fills in as Macy’s Santa Claus and spreads the word that he is the real Santa, a court case is opened to determine whether he is who he says he is.

Check out Miracle on 34th Street Pluto TV, Hulu or Amazon Prime.

2. ‘The Santa Clause’ Trilogy (1994-2006)

Tim Allen stars as divorced dad, Scott, who accidentally kills a man dressed in a Santa suit on Christmas Eve. Afterwards, he lands at the North Pole, where he learns he must take on the role of Santa before next Christmas, something he believes he dreamt of. But when he begins to grow a white fluffy beard and gain weight that seems rather Santa-like, Scott discovers he might not have been dreaming after all.

The original film from 1994 was followed up by two sequel films in 2002 and 2006. The second film is set 8 years after the events of the first. After being Santa for 8 years, he learns that he has only one month to find a wife by Christmas Eve or he will lose his role.

The third film, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, follows Jack Frost’s (Martin Short) plot to take over the North Pole, while Santa tries to figure out a way to stop him. Meanwhile, Scott must deal with in-laws who drop by to visit for the holidays.

3. ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ (2018)

Starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus, The Christmas Chronicles follows siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy (Judah Lewis) and their plot to catch Santa on camera on Christmas Eve. But when their plan doesn’t work out, they join forces with Santa in an unexpected journey to save Christmas before it’s too late.

The 2018 film was followed by a sequel in 2020 in which Kate Pierce is a cynical teen who is unexpectedly reunited with Santa when someone threatens to cancel Christmas forever.

4. ‘Fred Claus’

This 2007 film stars Vince Vaughn as Fred Claus and Paul Giamatti as Nick “Santa” Claus. Fred is Nick’s bitter older brother who often causes trouble and headaches for Nick. When he lands in major trouble, Nick works out an opportunity for Fred to work off his debt at the North Pole by making toys in the workshop. But things go awry when an efficiency expert heads to the North Pole to check on Santa’s toy-making operation.
