Move over McDonald’s and Starbucks. Mixue Bingcheng is now the world’s largest food and beverage chain.
According to a new report from Newsweek, the Chinese bubble tea and ice cream conglomerate operates over 45,000 outlets worldwide. Per Delish, a report from McDonald’s notes that by the end of 2023, the restaurant had 41,822 restaurants worldwide. At the end of the same year, Starbucks had 38,587 global locations according to the Restaurant Business.
Mixue was founded in 1997 by Zhang Hongchao, who opened a store selling shaved ice in Henan. Over the years, Mixue evolved into a staple of Chinese pop culture, mostly due to its mascot and jingle, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Mixue currently doesn’t have any locations in the United States, but that could change. According to Newsweek, Mixue is eyeing entry into the American market.
