Emergency services were rushed to an incident involving an aircraft at a Co Down airport on Friday.

Members of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the PSNI, as well as crew from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the incident involving an aircraft at Ards Airport on Portaferry Road at around 1pm.

Thankfully no injuries were reported amongst the two crew members of the small aircraft following the incident. Ards Airport has said that it is unable to comment at this time.

The PSNI confirmed officers were rushed to the scene of the collision on Friday along with emergency services.

A PSNI spokesperson told Belfast Live: "Police received report of a collision involving a light aircraft on the runway at Newtownards Airport shortly after 1pm this afternoon, Friday 4 April. Emergency services attended and no injuries were reported.”

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said multiple crews were rushed to the scene but confirmed that no casualties were removed from the scene.

A spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 12:58 on Friday, 4 April, following reports of an incident in the Portaferry Road area, Newtownards.

"NIAS dispatched one Emergency Ambulance, one Rapid Response Paramedic, one Advanced Paramedic and one Ambulance Officer. No one was taken from the scene."

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also dispatched three engines to the scene from Newtownards, Bangor and Knock fire stations.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of an aircraft incident on Portaferry Road, Newtownards. Firefighters used a cover jet to make the scene safe.

“Two casualties suffered no injuries but were transferred to the care of NIAS. The incident was dealt with by 1.47pm."
