Tributes have been paid to a motorcyclist who tragically died in a horror crash in Limerick on Wednesday evening.

Jack O’Donoghue, 33, died at the scene of a single-vehicle collision on the N69 at Cloonreask shortly before 8pm. His body was later removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination was due to take place.

The electrician was from Askeaton and was described by friends as a very talented soccer player and goalkeeper. A death notice on RIP.ie reads: “Jack will be sadly missed and always loved by his heartbroken parents Mary and Jimmy, partner Jane Fitzgerald, brother James, sister Anne and her partner Pádraig Fahy, aunts, uncles, cousins and a very large circle of friends.”

Tributes have poured in from his family and friends online. One person wrote: “He was an absolute gentleman. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.” Another said: “Jack was a gentleman, a great friend to those around him and will be sadly missed by everyone."

While a third wrote: “One of the most talented goalkeepers in all codes I played with or against over the years, but above all a top man. Never a bad word was said about you nor needed to be, and speaks volumes of who you were as a person.”

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward. A spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N69 near Askeaton between 7:15pm and 8:15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Newcastle West Garda Station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
