The championship-chasing handler is being hunted down by Irish maestro Willie Mullins as the battle for glory storms towards an epic climax.
However, Skelton roared out a message he won’t go down without a fight as he bagged a hat-trick of successes on day one of the meeting.
Roxanne kicked-off his victories with a win in the Abbott Risk Consulting Ltd Mares’ Maiden Hurdle priced at 100/30.
Ace of Spades was narrowly beaten into second, but 13/2 shot Riskintheground then grabbed over £25,000 first prize for winning the valuable Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase.
Asta La Pasta then won at 6/4 favourite with Skelton’s brother Harry collecting his second win of the afternoon.
Skelton’s triumphs allowed him to nudge further ahead of Mullins as the battle moves onto Saturday’s huge races.
Mullins is bringing 17 raiders across to Scotland for Saturday’s showpiece meeting which includes the £200,000 Grand National and also the £100,000 Scottish Champion Hurdle.
