KVIB encourages beekeeping

Claiming that the State's Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) is making its best effort to reap maximum benefits from National Honey Mission in the State, the Vice Chairman of the board Y Nilamani has asked all those persons who have keen interest in beekeeping to consult and submit their names to the authorities concerned.
Y Nilamani said that he is visiting the National Honey Board at Pune to submit the names of 1,000 beneficiaries soon.
Speaking as a presidium member in a beekeeping training programme which was held today at District Industries Centre (DIC), Senapati, the Vice Chairman asserted that the KVIB is investing its maximum effort to promote beekeeping in the State as part of the Central Government's initiative "National Honey Mission" (NHM) in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective of doubling farmers' income by 2022.Further informing that 60 to 70 flower plant species which feed bees and best suited for beekeeping are found in the State, he appealed interested persons to take up beekeeping as an occupation and generate huge income.
The KVIB is planning to implement beekeeping scheme under NHM in the State by March next year, he said.
As part of this, KVIB is taking up an initiative to distribute bee boxes by identifying potential beekeepers.
Those interested will have to undergo a beekeeping training programme conducted by KVIB, he added.
National Khadi and Village Industries Board Member P IbocKouba Singh mooted the idea for imparting training for making bee box to the people besides taking up beekeeping programme in the State.
He opined that enhancing beekeeping programme in the State needs employing scientific knowledge and technological guidance from the experts of relevant authorities like Central Agricultural University (CAU) .
