Is cricket one step closer to becoming an Olympic sport?

According to a report on Cricinfo, it looks like it might be.

The website reveals that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked its member councils to provide feedback on what the potential financial benefits of participating in the Olympics would be.

The feedback is being sought in the form of a questionnaire, where the members are being asked to confirm what type of financial backing they would expect to receive from their governments and Olympic organisations - the Department of Sport and Sascoc in South Africa's case.

The feedback will be returned by 2 November.

Cricket has been an Olympic sport only once in its history, featuring at the 1900 Paris Olympics.

Belgium and Netherlands withdrew from the tournament, meaning that the only match saw Great Britain defeat France by 158 runs.

The winners were awarded silver medals.
