Domestic worker accused of killing Ocean Basket owner and mother denied bail again

• One of the four suspects arrested for allegedly killing an Ocean Basket restaurant owner and her mother has been denied bail.
• Hettie Deacon, 70, and her daughter Lizette, 55, were murdered on 10 September in Welgelegen, near Cycard in Polokwane.
• Sophy Mmako, who was their domestic worker, was denied bail in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

One of the four suspects who are accused of killing an Ocean Basket restaurant owner and her mother has failed in a second bid for bail.

Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the Deacon's domestic worker Sophy Mmako, her boyfriend Lazarus Mahlo, as well as Abibi Hamid and Casper Mudau had appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Hettie Deacon, 70, and her 55-year-old daughter Lizette were allegedly murdered on 10 September in Welgelegen, near Cycard in Polokwane.

Their bodies were allegedly found in the back of their SUV.

Malabi-Dzhangi said Mmako’s second bail application was unsuccessful on Monday, after she applied on Friday.

Mmako and Mudau were both denied bail last month, News24 reported.

It was earlier reported that Mmako was arrested in Polokwane, while Mahlo was caught in Tembisa where he was hiding.

The suspects are facing charges of kidnapping, murder and robbery with aggravating circumtances.

They are expected back in court on 28 January next year.
